College Enhancements
(see also Student Scholarships)
The MCCC Foundation not only benefits students directly through substantial
scholarship support,
it additionally cultivates and channels much-needed funding for vital college
programs and properties. The examples below are representative of the Foundation's
commitment to nurturing educational opportunities -- and excellence -- at Mercer.
Programs
Generous Donors Resuscitate Nursing Labs
The college - and grateful Nursing students - have two generous donors to thank for two newly equipped
Nursing laboratories. The renovations were made possible by HelenMarie Dolton, former chair of the
college's Division of Science and Allied Health, and Johnson & Johnson through its "Campaign for Nursing's
Future." The labs are now equipped with new hospital beds and side tables, wheelchairs and other hospital
equipment. An adjoining computer lab benefits from new laptops. State-of-the-art mannequins simulate
human functions such as heartbeat, blood pressure and coughs.
Facilities
Foundation Team Effort Scores Gymnasium Renovation
MCCC students as well as thousands of community users scored a big win with Foundation-funded replacement
of the college gymnasium's aging bleachers, lighting, and flooring. In use for approximately 100 hours
each week, the gym is utilized for physical education classes, sports team practices, student activities
and enrollment events. Additionally, more than 600 children use the facility for summer camps. Community
use includes the winter indoor soccer youth league, which attracts nearly 2000 people, and the Mercer
County High School Basketball Championships held annually.
Resources
"Mercer On The Go" Helps Drive College Dreams
Potential MCCC students in under-served communities can now learn about and register for classes right
in their own neighborhoods. Funded by the MCCC Foundation's Urban Initiatives program, an equipped van
labeled "Mercer On The Go" travels to neighborhoods where access to transportation and the Internet may be
limited. Van appearances are staffed with MCCC representatives who inform potential students and parents
about the full array of opportunities at Mercer, not only in credit programs but in career training, GED,
English language and youth services. On-site registration services make education access even easier.
