Criminal Justice Club

The Criminal Justice Club is very active each academic year. Students participate in a variety of activities and tours, gain valuable insight regarding the past, present, and future of Criminal Justice, and often develop lasting friendships with fellow students.

The CJ Club also regularly sponsors the Careers in Corrections Workshop. The Workshop is open to the entire campus community and includes presenters from a variety of correctional agencies. All in attendance are exposed to the wide variety of career opportunities found nationwide in corrections. Pictured below are from left, first row, Criminal Justice Club President Luis Vega, Club Secretary Kyle Craver, Paulette Savage of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, V. Karen Green-Allen of the United States Probation Office, Christine Simone-Dill of the New Jersey Department of Corrections, and MCCC Professor Peter Horne. The back row includes Llionel Henderson of the Mercer County Youth Detention Center, Richard Bearden of the Mercer County Correction Center, David Steele of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and MCCC Associate Professor Cavit Cooley.

The CJ Club also regularly assists in bringing individuals to Mercer to participate in the MCCC Distinguished Lecture Series. Recently, MCCC Criminal Justice Program Adjunct Professor and Plainsboro Township Police Chief Elizabeth Bondurant and MCCC Professor Peter Horne provided insight regarding the past, present, and future of women in criminal justice. Pictured left to right below are Criminal Justice Club Secretary Kyle Craver, Club member Michael Frey, Professor Peter Horne, Chief Elizabeth Bondurant, and Associate Professor Cavit Cooley.

Club members regularly hold an annual fundraiser. Proceeds go to a variety of charitable organizations.

A recent winner of the annual fundraiser accepts his prize as the charitable organization accepts the check.

Club members often tour correctional facilities in the central New Jersey area. Pictured are Professors Horne and Cooley with students on a recent tour of the Mid-State Correctional Facility in Wrightstown, NJ. These tours allow students to gain much insight into the design, operation, and programming associated with such institutions.

Forensic Science has been a recent interest for many in Criminal Justice. The CJ Club touring the NJ Department of Law and Public Safety Forensic Science Center in Hamilton Township.

The spring semester traditionally ends with a visit to an area firearms range for fun filled hours of shooting and pizza.
