(HUN) Hungarian
Note: Students who have taken two or more years of a foreign language, and have done so in the last two years, should begin that language at the 200 level or switch to a new language. If there is doubt, placement will be determined by testing or consultation with the academic division.
HUN 101 - Beginning Hungarian I (3 credits)
Fundamentals of Hungarian pronunciation and grammar, reading of easy prose selections, writing, comprehension, and simple conversation patterns. Occasional offering. 3 lecture hours
HUN 102 - Beginning Hungarian II (3 credits)
Prerequisite: HUN 101 with a minimum C grade or equivalent experience
Continuation of HUN 101 with further emphasis on speaking and reading. Continues the study of grammar, pronunciation, simple dialogue, and essentials of sentence structure with further development of vocabulary. Supplementary listening tapes and exercises are available in the library. Occasional offering. 3 lecture hours
HUN 201 - Intermediate Hungarian I (3 credits)
Prerequisite: HUN 102 or divisional permission
Parts of speech, verb tenses, and language structure are reviewed; oral expression is developed with attention to pronunciation, increase of vocabulary, and idiom. Includes graded readings of shorter literary pieces and compositions centering on Hungarian life. Supplementary listening tapes and exercises are available in the library. 3 lecture hours
HUN 202 - Intermediate Hungarian II (3 credits)
Prerequisite: HUN 201 or divisional permission
Continuation of HUN 201. Reviews structure and grammar and stresses active use of vocabulary through reading, writing, and speaking. Involves graded readings of shorter literary pieces and compositions concerning Hungarian life. Occasional offering. 3 lecture hours
