GERONTOLOGY - THE STUDY OF AGING

This program has been updated for Fall, 2014!

With the increasing aging population, the field of Gerontology is growing exponentially. Adult children are now caring for aging parents and are responsible for making key decisions about their care. Life expectancy
has increased and caregivers in the field of Gerontology are in high demand.

The Center for Continuing Studies' Gerontology courses are designed to keep you up to date in all issues involving the aging, whether you are embarking on this important career or if you are caring for an aging family member. CERTIFICATE IN CLINICAL DEVELOPMENT & REGULATORY AFFAIRS

This popular program is now being offered nearly completely online in response to the continuing need for trained professionals in the biopharmaceutical and medical device industries. Training online allows the continuing studies student who is also working out in the field to be able to earn this important certificate within his or her own schedule and from wherever the location.

In addition, MCCC has an articulation agreement in place with Drexel University College of Medicine. Participants who successfully complete the Certificate in Clinical Development and Regulatory Affairs earn 9 graduate credits applicable upon acceptance to Drexel University's Master Degree in Clinical Research Organization and Management.

COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY (CT SCAN) PROGRAM

The CT Scan Program is a post-graduate advanced level specialty education program. The online program, consisting of 13 learning modules, is offered for the convenience of professionals seeking further knowledge and advancement in their careers. This online program, in conjunction with clinical assignments at area hospitals, will prepare students to take the ARRT Certification Exam and receive certification in Computed Tomography. Students will emerge from the program fully prepared to operate computed tomography equipment safely and competently to produce diagnostic CT images.

DENTAL ASSISTING PROGRAM
BRAND NEW FOR FALL, 2014!

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 25 percent from 2012 to 2022. The Center for Continuing Studies' 60 hour program in Dental Assisting prepares you for an entry level position in this fast growing healthcare field. This course covers both administrative and clinical aspects of dental assisting while providing training in the skills needed to function as an assistant within the dental practice. The course is also ideal for students interested in pursuing a formal Dental Hygienist program in the future. Textbooks are included in the cost of this course. When registering for this program, be sure to ask for details regarding pending dental office observation opportunities.

Accurate medical billing and coding is necessary to secure maximum reimbursement for healthcare providers and to ensure legal compliance on claims. The Center for Continuing Studies' 60 hour program in Occupational Therapy prepares you to treat patients with injuries; chronic diseases; arthritis; and disabilities. Students in this program learn anatomy; physiology; pathology; and psychology as they relate to the Occupational Therapy Aide position.

OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT

This 50-hour Ophthalmic Assistant Program prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing segments of the healthcare field. Through classroom lecture and labs, students will learn about anatomy and physiology of the eye; general principles of pharmacology; prescriptions; visual acuity; tonometry and glaucoma. Although this program does not include a clinical rotation or national or state certification as part of its overall objectives, it does meet the requirements set forth by the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and its Ophthalmic Medical Assisting Exam.

CERTIFIED HOME HEALTH AIDE (CHHA) FOR C.N.A.'S PROGRAM

This 10-hour program is designed for the Certified Nurse Aide who wants to expand certification and become a Certified Home Health Aide. Upon successful completion of this program, you will eligible to apply for certification as a CHHA. To apply for certification, an additional licensing fee must be submitted to the New Jersey

Board of Nursing in conjunction with the application.

 

In order to apply to this program, students must be currently certified by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services as a Certified Nurse Aid. Proof must be provided at the first class.

CERTIFIED HOME HEALTH AIDE (CHHA) 76-HOUR PROGRAM

This New Jersey Board of Nursing program prepares students to become professional caregivers of any age group who requires assistance in their daily living. As a certified Home Health Aide, you will be qualified to assist people in their home and rehabilitation areas as well as within child care and assisted living facilities.

Prerequisites:  Copy of a high school diploma or GED and documentation of two step PPD test.

Special Notes:  The required textbook is available at the MCCC bookstore. The additional and approximate cost of $25 for a scrub top is to be paid by the student. Clinical experience will take place at a nearby facility and students are responsible for their own transportation.

CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE (CNA) PROGRAM

As the demand for Certified Nurse Aides grows, allow us to help you meet this demand. The CNA occupation involves caring for patients in long-term care and assisted living facilities, rehabilitation enters, pediatric care offices and some hospitals. Our 90 hour course is approved by the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services and consists of 50 classroom hours and 40 hours of clinical instruction. Upon culmination of this program, students will be fully prepared to take the New Jersey State Certified Nursing Assistant Exam. Licensed CNAs are eligible to take an additional 10 hour course to become a Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA).

Phlebotomy I (Lecture/Classroom)

Our 90 hour Phlebotomy I lecture course is the first step in preparing to become a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). This course will cover the health care delivery system, collection of materials and equipment; venipuncture and capillary techniques; and medical, legal and ethical implications of blood collection. Upon successful completion of Phlebotomy I, students will be recommended to begin our Phlebotomy II Externship Program at a local healthcare facility. Students completing the entire certificate program (Phlebotomy I and II) will be fully prepared to take the National Certification Exam.

EKG TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION TEST PREPARATION

This comprehensive 50-hour EKG Technician Certification Program prepares students to function as EKG Technicians and to take the ASPT Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician exam. This course will include important practice and information on anatomy and physiology of the heart; medical disease processes, diseases, terminology and ethics; legal aspects of patient contact; and electrocardiography and stress testing. Students will participate

in hands-on learning which will enable them to learn the function and proper use of the EKG machine; the anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement and 12 lead placement; and additional and relevant clinical practices.
