INTRODUCTION TO AUTOMATION USING
PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLERS (PLC)

May 16, 2015 - August 15, 2015 (no class May 23 and July 4) / 12 sessions / Saturdays 8:30am - 4:00pm / Course #NCEET-CS001-01 /7.8 CEU / $1,500 (books & materials included)

To be competitive in the global economy, manufacturing and service companies are examining ways to improve existing processes to become more efficient and reduce costs. PLC controlled equipment enables an organization to fine-tune their operations by fully automating manufacturing processes that are currently performed manually. Automated "Lights Out" facilities require less lighting and heating to operate than do traditional human controlled equipment and monitoring systems thereby reducing energy costs and material waste. PLC controllers are used in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) to reduce electrical consumption and to network stand-alone industrial controls. Students will be introduced to basic system concepts of operation, industry terminology, dominant manufacturer brands, and practical applications and uses.

Students in this innovative training program will have the opportunity to use PLC work stations that will simulate real world tasks (work stations pictured above.)

Required: Basic knowledge of AC/DC circuits, digital electronic and industrial controls are required. Must be comfortable using a Microsoft Windows operation system.

This course is designed for electricians, industrial maintenance mechanics/automation technicians and energy management system operators in training.

IT RISK MANAGEMENT/CYBER SECURITY CERTIFICATE

Now is the time to get involved in this growing field; a field that is growing 3.5 times faster than the standard IT field. With so many businesses and organizations experiencing cyber intrusions and security breaches, the need for Risk Management/Cyber Security specialists has increased exponentially.

The Certificate in IT Risk Management/Cyber Security has been developed for the working IT professional who is responsible for protecting data architecture from hacking, viruses; worms, and the multitude of growing threats. At the completion of this certificate program, you will understand issues of assessment and mitigation of security risks in networking, TCP/IP, cloud, wireless, host/application and server environments.

All four of the following courses must be successfully completed to earn the certificate:

The first two courses below cover the necessary topics to give you a solid foundation of study to prepare for employment in the cyber security field.

Course 1: Foundations of IT Security: Technologies and Risks

April 27, 2015 - August 10, 2015  (no class May 25)

15 sessions /Mondays / 6:30pm - 9:30pm

Course #NCNET-CS002-01 / $1,085

Course 2: Fundamentals of Cyber Security and Mitigation Methods

The next two courses cover the necessary topics to prepare you for work within the IT Cyber Security field.

Course 3: Risk Assessment

Be fully prepared to serve in a risk assessment role! Risk assessment is the process of quantitatively calculating the potential damage and/or monetary cost caused by a threat, a vulnerability, or by an event impacting the IT assets owned by the organization. Identification of the potential damage to the IT assets and/or business processes is based upon previous internal and external events, input from subject matter experts, and audits. Specifically, the following topics and issues are assessed: network/protocol stack security, Defenses in Depth concepts, physical IP-layer, perimeter, firewalls, proxies, IDS, wireless security and more.

Course 4: Risk Mitigation Planning

Take the next step to serve in a risk mitigation role. Risk mitigation is the process for controlling and decreasing IT risks. It typically includes cost-benefit analysis and the selection, implementation, test and security evaluation of safeguards. This overall system security review considers both effectiveness and efficiency while examining policy, regulation and laws. The following topics and issues are assessed: host/application security, threats management, virus/worms/Trojan/spyware management, patching, Windows/Linux issues and more!

All four courses must be taken to earn the MCCC certificate. Students may pursue other certifications on their own such as the CompTIA Security+ and/or the Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) certification.

Click HERE for more information on those certificates.
