GRAPHIC DESIGN and MULTIMEDIA

 

The Center for Continuing Studies now offers a variety of options for students interested in obtaining a certificate or certification in graphic design or multimedia.

Option #1: Graphic Design Certificate: students are required to complete the following seven courses. Upon completion a student may sit for the Adobe Certification exam. See below for additional information.

  1. Foundations of Graphic Design
  2. Color Theory for Graphic Designers
  3. Intro to Photoshop CC
  4. Advanced Photoshop CC
  5. Intro to Illustrator CC
  6. Advanced Illustrator CC
  7. Exploring Fonts: Intro to Typography

 

Option #2: Print/Publishing Certificate: to obtain a Print/Publishing Certificate students are required to complete the Graphic Design Certificate plus the following three courses: Upon completion a student may sit for the Adobe Certification exam. See below for additional information.

  1. Intro to InDesign CC
  2. Advanced InDesign CC
  3. Exploring Fonts: Advanced Typography

 

Option #3: Digital Design Certificate: to obtain a Digital Design Certificate students are required to complete the following six courses. Upon completion a student may sit for the Adobe Certification exam. See below for additional information.

  1. Foundations of Graphic Design
  2. Color Theory for Graphic Designers
  3. Intro to Photoshop CC
  4. Advanced Photoshop CC
  5. Intro to Illustrator CC
  6. Advanced Illustrator CC

 

Option #4: Web Design Specialist: to obtain a Web Design Specialist Certificate students are required to complete the following seven courses. Upon completion a student may sit for the Adobe Certification exam. See below for  additional information.

  1. Essentials of HTML
  2. Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) Complete
  3. Intro to Photoshop CC
  4. Advanced Photoshop CC
  5. Dreamweaver CS6- Complete
  6. Muse 
  7. Web Design Concepts

 

Option #5: Multimedia and Digital Design Certification: to obtain a Web Design and Digital Design Specialist Certificate, students are required to complete both the Digital Design Certificate and the Web Design Certificate.

 


Essentials of HTML

Required: Basic knowledge of Windows; familiarity with creating and saving files, ability to touch type.

Now’s the time! Learn to read and write proper HTML 5 code to create accessible web pages. Understand conceptual design, text formatting, creating links, tables and lists, and inserting graphics and images. Cascading Style Sheets and creating forms will also be introduced. Materials will be provided by the instructor.

Foundations of Graphic Design

From typography through page layout and on to color theory, this course helps novice designers or working pros to better understand the qualities of creating professional graphic design. Topics include a history of graphic arts and introductory discussions of type, composition/layout, color theory, and photographic and illustrated images as they directly impact today’s graphic designer.

Intro to Photoshop CC

Required: Introduction to Windows, experience with word processing desirable

Let us introduce you to Adobe's premier image editing application with an emphasis on what you NEED to know about this incredibly robust program. This course focuses on the tool sets available within the program and provides a hands-on understanding of how to find your way around Photoshop. Image-size, resolution, selections, layers, dialogs, shortcuts, and basic editing techniques are jsut some of what will be covered in this course.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) - Complete

Prerequisite: Essentials of HTML

This hands-on course provides the fundamentals and advanced techniques of using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to build and control “responsive” web sites. The emphasis of this course is on using web-standards to build site layouts with CSS (not tables), while creating HTML and CSS from scratch to deliver well-designed, focused content on a variety of media types from desktops to mobile devices.

Intro to Illustrator CC

You don’t need to be an illustrator to learn and use this industry standard vector graphics application. Intro to Illustrator CC provides hands-on understanding of how to find your way around the program while presenting the tool sets available within. Shapes, paths, layers, stacks, swatches, object based creation, document setup, the pen tool, and palettes are just some of what will be covered in this course.

Advanced Photoshop CC

Prerequisite: Intro to Photoshop CC

Apply the tools presented in the Intro to Photoshop CC course to continue on and learn more advanced techniques. Photo-retouching, color correction, advanced layers, masking, channels, and an in-depth look at palettes are jsut some of the topics covered in this course. Learn to fix photos in post-production while maximizing efficiency and output. Photoshop is an incredibly powerful application; get the most from it!

Advanced Illustrator CC

Expand upon what was learned in Intro to Illustrator CC and bring it to the next level. Take an in-depth look at palettes, effects, new dimensional tool sets, and page layout options, while learning to integrate into other applications. Advanced Illustrator CC takes tools and turns them into techniques.

Web Design Concepts

Learn the basic programming languages and tools needed to design and develop web content. Learn what is needed to know BEFORE building a website and use that knowledge to build a basic web-based framework. This class prepares you for the next level of courses required to becoming a web designer or developer.

Introduction to WordPress

You, too, can use WordPress, the popular website blogging and content management system! Great for the beginner, this hands-on class focuses on building pages, adding plug-ins, using templates, and editing themes learn all you need to know to create your own basic WordPress website. An understanding of website architecture, hosting, and programming languages (i.e., HTML, PHP, MySQL) is helpful, but not necessary.

Dreamweaver CS6 - Complete

Prerequisite: Essentials of HTML, and knowledge of Windows

Do you want to learn how to design and manage websites using the Adobe Dreamweaver web authoring software? This class will show you how as you learn to navigate in the Dreamweaver workspace. Topics include: working with text and images; links; page layout; and templates. Advanced topics include: online forms; Javascript behaviors; and designing responsive websites (i.e., for portable devices like cell phones and tablets).

Intro to InDesign CC
