ABE/GED Programs
Adult Basic Education & General Educational Development Programs
GED Prep Online
Welcome
Mercer County Community College offers Adult Basic Education & General Educational
Development (ABE/GED) classes to adults who have not completed high school. This program
provides an alternate way for adults to improve their basic skills, prepare
for, and earn a high school diploma in an adult environment. Classes are
offered in both English and Spanish.
These classes will prepare an individual in the following subject areas:
- Writing
- Social Studies
- Science
- Literature
- Mathematics
Once you pass the NJ State GED
exam, the actual diploma is issued by the New Jersey State Department of
Education and states that you have met all requirements to be a high school
graduate. The diploma is recognized by many employers and colleges as being
equivalent to a high school diploma.
Who is eligible?
If you are at least 16 years
of age, you can enter the program. Minors must complete a "Certificate
of Consent " form, which can be obtained at the ABE/GED office.
Where to go for Testing
You will first need to take
our placement test so we can determine what skills you will need to work
on. Our placement tests are given in both English and Spanish at MCCC's
JKC Campus.

However, classes are offered at various sites in the Trenton area. Most class locations are near
public
transportation. For your convenience, classes are available in the morning, afternoon and
evening.
How Long Will It Take?
Because students, through
previous education and experience, have achieved varying levels of mastery
in each of the basic skills areas, they have different learning needs.
Instruction is, therefore, individualized. Your instructor will help you
learn what you need, at your own pace.
