Jorunn Evju,
a May graduate of Mercer County Community College, has been selected
for the 2008 Outstanding Student-Athlete Award from the Collegiate
Athletic Administrators of New Jersey (CAANJ). The award was announced
at a special ceremony during the organization's annual conference
in Somerset in October. She was selected from among all female student
athletes who attend community colleges in New Jersey.
A Dean's List
student who majored in Education, Evju played soccer for two years
on the MCCC women's soccer team, serving as team captain during
her sophomore year, and was an active member of the International
Student Organization. MCCC Athletic Trainer Lisa Camillone, who
worked closely with Evju while she recovered from a 2007 injury,
nominated her for the CAANJ award. "She is a well-rounded,
positive and extremely personable individual - an excellent student,
a dedicated athlete, and a volunteer tutor for students with special
needs," Camillone said.
A native of
Norway, Evju has transferred to Kean University, where she is continuing
her studies in Elementary Education.
