Four Former MCCC Baseball Stand-Outs on Professional Rosters this Season

7/6/06

Four former MCCC baseball players are currently playing baseball at the professional level. The newest addition to the professional leagues is Charlie Iacono, an outfielder who played at Mercer in 2003 and 2004, and was named to the All-Region 19 team both years. He continued his playing career at The College of New Jersey in 2005 and 2006. Iacono was recently recruited by the Milwaukee Brewers and will play rookie league ball in Helena, MT. During the season he just completed at TCNJ, Iacono racked up a school-record 48 stolen bases on 50 tries. He compiled 124 career hits in his two years at TCNJ, with 59 runs scored in 2006, earning him the no. 3 spot at TCNJ in a single-season performance.

Matt Perks pitched for the Vikings in 2004. A Steinert grad, Perks is in his second year in the Washington Nationals organization, playing with the Gulf Coast League.

Catcher Ken Lup, who played for Mercer in 2003 when the team went to the NJCAA World Series, is playing a second year with the Fort Worth (TX) Cats. Lup, who graduated from McCorristin High School, continued his education and playing career at William Patterson University.

Shaun Parker won the 2002 Scholar-Athlete Award at Mercer, pitching two successful seasons for the Vikings. He continued his education at Rutgers and currently plays for the Traverse City (MI) Beach Bums in the Frontier League.
